Does Engive work on GitHub READMEs?

Yes. Every widget is a server-rendered SVG served from /api/widget/[username]/[type].svg. tags survive GitHub's CSP, so you just paste the markdown or HTML into your README and it renders.

Do I need a script tag?

No. The primary embed is just an tag — zero JavaScript required. GitHub strips , so scripts were never an option there. We also offer an optional 11 KB JS embed for third-party sites that allow scripts.

Vercel edge for the SVG endpoints, MongoDB Atlas (with a private Linux server mirror via Tailscale) for data, Upstash Redis for cache. No servers you have to run.

Can I customize colors, fonts, borders?

Yes. Every visual setting maps 1:1 to a URL query parameter on the SVG endpoint. Change backgroundColor, accentColor, fontFamily, borderRadius, showFooter, etc. right in the URL — or open /widget/preview to design visually and copy the URL.

How does this compare to github-readme-stats?

Engive ships 6 widgets (developer card, streak, streak trophy, top languages, contribution graph, repo showcase) with 7 hand-crafted themes, all SVG. github-readme-stats covers one card with limited theme support. Engive is also free with no API key required.

Is the Engive GitHub Widget really free?

Yes. There is no paid tier, no signup wall, and no rate limit beyond standard CDN caching. The widget ships free for everyone, forever.

What's a GitHub widget?

It's the small card you see on a developer's profile — showing how many stars they have, what languages they use, how consistent their commits are. Most developer portfolios use one to prove they actually ship code.
